August 23 is picture day. This is prepaid. Check your child’s orange folder for picture envelopes. We had another great week last week! We are working on and getting better with following procedures. Our only real hurdle left to overcome is knowing when it is ok to talk and when it isn’t. If you have a minute, please talk with your child about ways to control their talking. We also went to the ILC this past week. So you should now begin seeing library books coming home. The children also have a day each week that is designated as their day to go to the ILC in the mornings. What will be learning this week: Math: place value, ways to represent numbers Reading/ELA- asking questions, long and short vowels Writing- personal narratives, small moments, and writing across pages Science- States of matter, what they are and how they change STEAM: Review of 4 C’s, and the engineering process, Changing states of matter activity With all this great learning each day remember that playing outside each afternoon is a good thing! And as always READ!!!! WISH LIST: 2-2 liter bottles of coke Let me know if you can help with our wish 1-1/2 gallon vanilla ice cream list needs. J 25-small CLEAR plastic cups 25-plastic spoons Magazines we can use to cut pictures from. (If you send in magazines please make sure they are appropriate for us to use in the classroom. J ) Our first 3 days were great! We are working on learning procedures and developing class community. Making new friends is great. Please continue to encourage your child to develop individual responsibility, taking charge of their own needs.
What are we learning? Math- Skip counting by 2’2, 5’s, 10’s and even 100’s Reading/ELA- Kevin Henkes Book Study, comparing various books, what makes a good reader? Knowing the differences between nouns, verbs, and proper nouns Writing- writing cinquains (poems), punctuation and capitalization review Science- Seasons STEAM: Review of 4 C’s, and the engineering process, We will also be creating a poem and visual representation of a tree in the summer Open house is Tuesday, August 7. PTA/TTF will begin the meeting at 6:00pm in the cafeteria. Two sessions, 6:30/7:30 will follow the PTA/TTF meeting in our classroom. Two sessions are being offered to accommodate parents who need to attend multiple classroom sessions. We will discuss many procedures, curriculum, and expectations that will make our year run smoothly. I hope to see you all Tuesday evening! |
