Parents,
Thank you to all who have sent in wish list items. The kids were excited to have new items to play with on the playground! and I am super excited to have new markers to use for our math games. We ended our week with a place value STEM challenge. Students were given the challenge of designing and creating a free standing structure following certain criteria. It proved to be a challenge for some groups but that made for some great conversation about engineers and how they don't always succeed the first time. I was very proud how they used the 4 C’s (critical thinking, creativity, communication, and collaboration), Wednesday, August 30th is an early release day. Students will be dismissed at 12:30. Please make sure your student knows how they are going home and send in any transportation changes. Thank you so much. Homework: Please make sure you are reminding your child to be checking out a math game each night, and the children should be reading EVERY NIGHT. They have a reading log we are using to keep up with their progress towards our 200 book goal. They need to be logging the books/chapters they read, and then a parent should sign before turning in. Here is what we are learning this week: Math: Addition and subtraction strategies within 20. Reading/Language Arts: We will continue to focus on questioning while we read and retell stories using beginning, middle, and end organizers. We will talk about characters and how they change through major story events and challenges. We will continue working with long and short vowels, and will introduce irregular plural nouns. So one thing we did to help calm those jitters was make Jitter Juice. It helped us not be so nervous! Many of the children wanted to make it at home so here is the recipe:
1 part Sprite 1 part Hawaiian Punch (Make sure the Hawaiian punch and sherbet are the same color!) 1 part sherbet (optional) Sprinkles (optional) Drink this yummy juice to help scare away the jitters! Hello all! We have had a fabulous first week! We have spent time working on being a TEAM! Learning each others names, determining and practicing the procedures that will help make our year run smoothly are a few of the things we have worked on! I know next week will be even better.
Please mark your calendars and plan to attend our Open House....Thursday August 10. More info will be coming soon! Enjoy your weekend, and I look forward to seeing you all Thursday evening. |
