August 23 is picture day. This is prepaid. Check your child’s orange folder for picture envelopes. We had another great week last week! We are working on and getting better with following procedures. Our only real hurdle left to overcome is knowing when it is ok to talk and when it isn’t. If you have a minute, please talk with your child about ways to control their talking. We also went to the ILC this past week. So you should now begin seeing library books coming home. The children also have a day each week that is designated as their day to go to the ILC in the mornings. What will be learning this week: Math: place value, ways to represent numbers Reading/ELA- asking questions, long and short vowels Writing- personal narratives, small moments, and writing across pages Science- States of matter, what they are and how they change STEAM: Review of 4 C’s, and the engineering process, Changing states of matter activity With all this great learning each day remember that playing outside each afternoon is a good thing! Knowing the differences between nouns, verbs, and proper nouns Writing- writing cinquains (poems), punctuation and capitalization review Science- Seasons STEAM: Review of 4 C’s, and the engineering process, We will also be creating a poem and visual representation of a tree in the summer Open house is Tuesday, August 7. PTA/TTF will begin the meeting at 6:00pm in the cafeteria. Two sessions, 6:30/7:30 will follow the PTA/TTF meeting in our classroom. Two sessions are being offered to accommodate parents who need to attend multiple classroom sessions. The kids are doing a great job being quiet while the upper grades are testing. I have been very proud of them! Thanks for getting all the field trip forms turned in! We are excited to get to go to the CNC! Invites for our STEAM day should have come home Friday. We are looking forward to showing you what STEAM looks like in the classroom. If you can come that is great, but please don’t worry if you can’t! I am sure you will be told all about it! What are we learning? Math- Geometry; we will be partitioning circles and rectangles into two, three, or four equal shares as well as continuing to explore 2D and 3D shapes. Reading/ELA- We will continue to look at the main idea/supporting details in multi-paragraph texts. We will also ask and answer who, what, when, why, and how questions about each text. This includes using context clues to help understand the paragraphs we read. Students will also begin to compare and contrast two texts on the same topic/Prefixes Writing- Finishing our Informational unit and moving towards Narrative. Science- Life Cycles; plants and butterflies. Welcome back! I hope everyone had time this past week to rest, relax and make some great new memories! I can’t wait to hear everyone’s exciting news! Our meetings will be so fun this week! Valentines can be brought to school on Tuesday or Wednesday morning. We will exchange when we return from our field trip. I also think the Valentine Fairies are coming to decorate and leave the room ready for some quick fun when we return. We will decorate Valentine bags Wednesday morning before we leave. Please have your child wear their second grade Kind is the New Cool shirt if they have one. Children are asked to wear tennis shoes and that girls do not wear dresses. If your child is bringing a lunch from home, please make sure that it is in a disposable bag. Keep working on homework. I am attaching a picture of the homework for this week, so you know what I expect it to look like. I still expect the children to copy it and bring it home. It is good practice. Thank you all for returning the field trip forms for our visit to Safety Village on the 14th. We will have an in house visit from them this week to get the kids ready. This is a favorite trip as it is very informative and fun. If you are interested in chaperoning, please let me know. I am looking for two volunteers. We will be having a valentine exchange on the morning of the February 14th. Please have your child bring in a signed valentine for each child . A class list will be going home on Monday. Box Top collection begins again on Monday. If you have been collecting, please send them in groups of 50. Thank you so much. Our lost and found area is overflowing. Coats/items with names are returned if found but those without names are often donated if they cannot find their owner. PLEASE put your child’s name in their coats.
